The sporadic musings of a middle aged man who isn't exactly happy with the direction America is taking today....

Guarding The Tomb this morning. Still carrying on during the hurricane.

Update: The Old Guard explains that the above photograph was taken in September of this year, not today during Hurricane Sandy. The link below is to their site with a couple of pictures from today.
Every minute of every day since April 6, 1948...
They take their duty seriously.

"The 3rd Infantry Regiment posted these pictures to their Facebook page showing the guards hard at work on Monday. Along with the pictures, they posted this message: 'The Sentinels at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier maintain their vigil even as Hurricane Sandy bears down on the Eastern Seaboard. The Old Guard has guarded the tomb every minute of every day since April 6, 1948. Today will be no exception.' "

ReplyDeleteBrock... Some people still understand the concepts of Duty and Honor...
ReplyDeleteBrings a lump to the throat.
ReplyDeleteGod bless them!!! Tears in my eyes!
ReplyDeleteMr Swanson, MizDeb...
ReplyDeleteI get a bit emotional myself, sometimes. I've been there a couple of times. These men are awesome. They take their duty seriously. They understand that they are watching over people who have died for this country. They are Believers.
Blue,
ReplyDeleteThat photo says it all doesn't it? To know these men feel honored to be allowed to guard the last resting place of nameless, faceless American Patriots 24/7, gives me hope that we will prevail.
Thanks buddy
I wonder how many times Hussein has stood in the rain for someone he doesn't know?
Dave... It gives me hope, too. :)

2003 as Hurricane Isabelle was
approaching Washington ,
DC, our
US Senate/House took 2 days
off with anticipation of the storm. On the ABC
evening news, it was reported that because of
the dangers from the
hurricane, the military
members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb
of
the Unknown Soldier were given permission
to suspend the assignment. They
respectfully declined the offer, "No way,
Sir!" Soaked to the skin,
marching in the
pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that
guarding
the Tomb was not just an assignment,
it was the highest honor that can be
afforded
to a service person. The tomb has been patrolled
continuously,
24/7, since 1930.
God
Bless and keep them.
Amen. Amen.
