The economy...

I get a kick out of the media and  my "Liberal" friends when they talk about the improved economy under obama.

7.5% unemployment.  It isn't because of a bunch of new jobs, people.  It's because the 99 weeks of unemployment has run out and the unemployed aren't counted as unemployed any longer.

Housing values are climbing again.  I guess that's OK if you're selling.  Not so much if you're trying to buy.  Housing is a basic necessity, kinda like food and water.  When the price of housing goes up less people are able to afford housing.  A higher valued home means higher property taxes for the homeowner.  That means less  money in the pocket to buy the other things that keep the economy rolling.  Besides, it was an artificially inflated housing market that started this mess in the first place.  Remember?

Have you bought gas or groceries lately?  How can the economy be better if you're paying almost $4 for a gallon of milk, $5 for a pound of hamburger, and $4 or more for a gallon of gas?  A loaf of store brand bread is nearly $3...  I came home from Utah on the 3rd of May and gas was $3.29 a gallon here.  Today it is $3.96.  I was in St. Cloud, Minnesota yesterday.  Gas is $4.10 a gallon up there.

It seems to me that this wonderfully improved economy is making many middle class people into the new poor and is making the poor become destitute.  Well, that's not entirely true...  The "poor" can usually get on some sort of program to get government assistance.

You have to ask yourself if you are better off now than you were a year ago?  2 years?  5?

Do you have increased buying power?  Are you better able to purchase all of the things you need and more of the things you want?  Are you able to save part of your income for the future?

Wages are stagnant, costs are increasing, businesses aren't hiring and the economy is "improving"?

How are your healthcare premiums doing?  Going up, you say?  You ain't seen nothing yet.

Do I dare ask... are our government and the media pumping people's heads full of shit?

Anyway...

Stay safe.
