Yep. I was 18 years, 20 days old when I went to basic training.
I'd been out hunting with my grandfather and his cronies since I was about 6 or 7, carrying an unloaded shotgun. The only way I kept up with them was knowing that at the end of the day I was going to shoot targets with my grandpa.
Hell, Bloomers still is irresponsible, so nothing has changed.
In the summer my husband and his brother got on their bikes, grabbed their .22s and went out all day. Never had any problems, I think they were at the most 10yo when they started doing that.
Miss V. ... Yep, summers with the .22. No one ever got hurt. The shotgun in the fall. I think you're right about the age, 10 or so. I'm afraid that world is long gone...
I teach every child over eight years old I can find to shoot. Often their parents come back for lessons themselves. I have offered to teach local scout troops but they don't seem interested. Guess they are too busy trying to make a new troop Rainbow flag.
