Let me get this straight...
Phil Robertson was being interviewed by Drew Magary of GQ magazine. In response to a question by Magary, Phil states that, in his personal opinion based on his personal Christian beliefs, homosexuality is immoral.
The homosexuals went berserk. (Don't forget that they make up approximately 1.7% of the population) They immediately put pressure on A&E to do something about the obviously intolerant Phil Robertson.
A&E responded:
“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely."
What A&E said is "We are tolerant of the homosexual lifestyle because it brings us advertising dollars. We are not tolerant of the strongly held beliefs of one of the stars of this program that has made us so much money" Talk about biting the hand that feeds you... Talk about being grossly out of touch with your audience.
Phil Robertson issued a statement that was released to HuffPost through A&E:
“I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”
America goes crazy.
The beauty of it is that the backlash appears to be almost completely against A&E and the Progressive lifestyle that is dominant in America today. It seems that Americans are sick and tired of sitting back quietly while a small faction tells them what to think. The Intolerants telling America that we have to be tolerant.
This is what the Progressives have been afraid of for so long. One man standing up and making a statement that resonates with the average American. A legitimate call to action. A simple statement that pulls the curtain from the Progressive agenda and exposes it for what it really is; an intolerant control mechanism. "If you don't think like I do, I'm going to stand up and scream from the rooftops that you are a bad person".
It works for racism.
It works for gun control (somewhat).
It works for the demand for homosexual acceptance.
It works for pretty much anything that the Progressives want to promote.
Name calling is a powerful tool.
The fear of being called names is a powerful deterrent.
I think that the current uproar goes far beyond Mr. Robertson and his beliefs. I believe that the average American is still a tolerant person. I don't think he cares if you are black, or Asian, or Mexican, or homosexual. I don't think he cares if you are religious or not. I think he is starting to realize that a very, very small, but very vocal, minority is making all of the decisions. I think that he is beginning to realize that those decisions don't really reflect his (American) values too well.
I do think that somewhere deep inside, the average American is sick and tired of being told how to think and what to think about any given topic. I think that the average American is tired of being told that wrong is right and right is wrong. I think he is tired of being told that he is an intolerant homophobic racist when, in fact, he is not.
I think that he is tired of small radical fringe groups with loud voices doing his thinking for him. Granted, he is the one who has allowed this thought control to happen. He is the only one who can change it. If only he can get past his fear of being called an intolerant homophobic racist.
Perhaps Phil's comments will wake the average American from the deep slumber (nightmare) of Progressivism. Perhaps the average American will wake up and begin to think for himself again.
Folks, this is an opportunity that should not be wasted.

ReplyDeleteExcellent article, David. It really shows who is out of touch, revisionist, and scared. Hint: It isn't the Robertsons. Who has the most to lose in this situation? A&E, of course. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't have said it better myself!

Will... I read this morning that GLAAD can't understand the backlash against their organization. They say that "never in their existence" have they experienced such backlash. Well, duh! :) Warms my heart!
ReplyDeleteGod bless the Robertsons!!!
ReplyDeleteBlue, you got it in one.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, if you're not reading Matt Walsh's blog, his post on the subject has garnered over 9200 comments. In perusal, I've noted that the supporters are patient, kind and coherent, while the leftists are foul-mouthed, often psychotic and full of rage and condescension, even as they accuse us of being full of "hate."
I think people are starting to see the irony...and not a moment too soon.
Thanks, Wraith. And thanks for the heads-up to Matt Walsh... :)
