The sporadic musings of a middle aged man who isn't exactly happy with the direction America is taking today....

Iowa...
~~~~~~
Well, most of the time. Like most places these days, Iowa has a large enough Liberal population in the population centers to sway the political scene for the rest of the state...
Actually Iowa is about the only mostly Rural State that is not dominated by the relatively small urban centers. Almost the entire Eastern side of counties, all rural, along the Mississippi river consistently vote Democrat.
I have studied this and even traveled the area and cannot for the life of me figure out why. My only theory is that these small towns have a number of small colleges in them and even more retirement homes/centers. They like the Democrats because of the social security medicaid thing.
Pioneer Preppy... Follow the money, eh? Makes sense. I've lived in Iowa all my life, other than the time I was in the Army, and always wondered how we could vote the way we do. :) Still, I think half the state's population is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Des Moines... Ahhhh well.
Yes.
ReplyDeleteIowa.
Mothballed and rusting away or scrapped and turned into Chinese tanks...
;)
You know what would be cool, though?
Drag the old girl up the Potomac River, drop anchor near DC, and start walking in shells from the waterline until nothing remained.
That would be groovy.
ReplyDeleteI live in eastern Iowa and fell like I am behind enemy lines most times. Probably 10-15 population centers control the state.
ReplyDeleteBadger
I hear ya, Badger... :)
ReplyDeleteSo what is up with those eastern counties? Ya know the Western ones in Wisconsin vote the same way. Maybe some Norwegian/Swede ancestor thing?
ReplyDeleteCould be :)
