  1. The phrase, "a rendezvous with destiny", was first used on 15 August 1942 by the commander of the newly created 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles", Major General William C. Lee, when it was activated at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.

According to General Order 5, Headquarters, 101st Airborne Division, "The 101st Airborne Division has no history - - - but it has a rendezvous with destiny."

The words, "A Rendezvous With Destiny", remains the motto of the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles", and is featured on the Division's Distinctive Unit Insignia (i.e., "Unit Crest").
