The sporadic musings of a middle aged man who isn't exactly happy with the direction America is taking today....

We have lost our way...
~~~~~~~
What changed? When did "What can the government do for me" become a more powerful and truthful statement about the way of life in today's America than "I don't want the government involved in my life anymore than is absolutely necessary"?
In recent history, as you already know, the fdr programs became the benchmark of the start of the nanny state, and everything has expanded geometrically since then, even though the worst is still to happen. That could be argued depending on how one views the calendar, this is just my view.
On a side note, you may find this a good read, Blue. :)
Mayor Richard Daley, Sr., of Chicago, was a Democrat. In 1968, during the riots, he said that anyone with a molotov cocktail would be shot. He called for, and got, the Gov to bring in the IL ARNG, out of Carbondale, to help quell the problem. Unlike LA and Detroit, these riots lasted about 2.5 days. On State Street, the first line of hippies was taken out when the Chicago Police fire rock salt out of their 12 Gauge shotguns into their lower legs. As they went down, the second line lost it's "resolve" and bailed out. Meanwhile, high-wheel-based Army trucks with barbed wire surrounding the cabs, rolled over the protestors. Behind those trucks were CPD with "paddy wagons"; scooped them up and then they were "sequestered" underneath the stands inside Soldiers Field. No journalists were allowed in there. My father a registered Republican, said he would vote for Mr Daley because he ran the city like a business. When you run something like a business, you have ownership and protection issues. When you run a city, or a country, like an ATM machine, what owership or protection would you feel for it? FDR was ahead of his time by turning the US into a welfare state. When it runs out, the left will blame GW Bush. We have lost our way.
Except that Daley ran Chicago like a machine. And, whether we like it or not, he violated the rights of the people in order to quickly quash dissent. Just another Democrat. A fucktard like the others who have followed him.
Yup, FDR followed by LBJ then Clinton and obama. Funny how all that works. :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent article at the link you shared. Thanks for that! :)
Blue; True. Like in "Used Cars" when Jack Warden says, "Used to be when you bought a politican, dammit, he stayed bought!"
ReplyDeleteIf he has been bought, certainly his personal honesty and morality should keep him bought. :)
