Don't know about the military, but a career in LE will do the same thing. I believe that anyone who does street-level law enforcement for three years can no longer pass a standard psychological test, if he answers honestly. A big-city detective once told me that DaVinci's portrait of The Last Supper is really a bunch of cops. How can you tell? They're all on the same side of the table, with their backs against the wall.
I got out of the Navy in March of '91. It's interesting that the caption said "years after you get your DD-214." Because it did take me years, to realize that I wasn't ever going to revert back to the civilian I was before I enlisted.
