I checked my fb and my news feeds this morning when I got up to see where the Senate runoff elections in Georgia ended up.
Not sure that anyone is surprised that it appears the Democrats have won both seats.
What does this mean? Well, I think it means that there are 50 Democrats (Bernie is an Independent in name only. A person who, like so many Socialists, wants what the Party can offer without being obligated to do any of the heavy lifting. He is, quite simply, a freeloader.) and 50 Republicans in the Senate now. Chuckie Schumer will become the new Majority Leader and VP Harris will spend more time in the Senate casting tie breaking votes than she will spend as VP.
Will the Democrats take advantage of the Power of 3 and force a Progressive agenda on the American people? Possibly. They have become further Left with every election cycle. Joe Biden is probably a moderate, but a totally ineffectual moderate. Kamala Harris is as far Left as one can get. There will be some infighting within the party between those who want to force the Progressive agenda on America one small bite at a time and the radicals like "The Squad" who want it all and who want it now.
So, for the next 2 years anyway, the Democrats have all of the power and the Republicans are likely to be forced to sit back and watch. Radical change? Like when the original obamacare was rolled out? Probably not. Bring back the parts of obamacare that have been taken away? Likely, yes, only more expensive and with more government control. Spending programs that will attract new Democrat voters in the future? Absolutely. National minimum wage increase, yes. Will it be $15 an hour like the far Left want? Probably, in legislated steps that will increase it over a couple of years. Reparations? We have been paying reparations since at least the time of LBJ. But yeah, possibly. Americans are woefully under-educated when it comes to American history and civics. (Don't know much about math and science, either.)
Gun control? Yup. That is going to be a biggie. And it is so misguided, based on emotion rather than facts. You have to ask yourself "why?". And don't fall for that old "they aren't coming for your guns" bullshit. They have all said that they are. They have all made it clear that they want your guns, or they want to make gun ownership so difficult that people will give up. Why?
Packing the Supreme Court? Maybe. I don't think that decision will be up to 'ol Joe. If the Party wants to add Justices, the Party will do so. As it stands right now the makeup of the Court is Donald Trump's legacy, a legacy that will be felt for many, many years. It wouldn't surprise me to see an attempt to expand the size of the Court to regain a Liberal/Progressive majority. And my bet would be that there won't be much of an outcry from the citizens of America if and when it happens. Because Americans are not very smart when it comes to understanding their government. Apathy rules in this country, especially among Conservatives.
Anyway, it's going to be an interesting couple of years. I've been reading blogs for a lot of years. Been writing here, sporadically, for a lot of years. I have asked myself a thousand times "when will the reset come? When will folks stand up for their rights?".
Sadly, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no "reset". No Conservative reset, anyway. The reset is taking place before our eyes. The Left is taking over. They are winning the hearts and minds of the masses by promising more programs, more "equality" (Financial equality. No one cares about race or sex or gender. Those are false narratives up at the Party level. The key is to keep making people believe that the folks who have worked hard, invested wisely, and taken all the risks involved in creating and operating a business are bad, selfish people who don't deserve the fruits of their labors.), more free stuff. They are catering to the feelings of the lazy and the inept. The folks on the Right have had many opportunities to stand up and force the opposition to stand down. They have not taken advantage of those opportunities. It would be a time of "no going back" and, regardless of the rhetoric, Conservative "would be revolutionaries" are comfortable with the lives that they have created for themselves. Death by a thousand cuts, little by little. Compliance. No organization, no leadership. Important things to have if you're gonna have a revolution... :)
I've heard it a hundred times. So have you... "Cross that line and I'll take action". They boldly and immediately cross that line while laughing in our faces. We move the line and say again... "cross that line..."
Anyway, I constantly hope that things get better, that everyone will wise up and realize that we are all in this together. Then I think of how childish and immature our friends on the Left have been these past 20 years (with emphasis on the past 4. Holy shit!) and I think, shit...
Perhaps I am just in a "down" mood this morning? Perhaps I'm wrong about everything?
Peace.

ReplyDeleteYou're not wrong. Just facing reality, Blue.
The struggle is real, Dear Adrienne...

ReplyDeleteHello lynney62. Welcome.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of times when I don't even know what to think anymore. I worry about my grandkids and their generation as well. It sometimes seems that the divide is so great that it can't be repaired... All we can do is keep the faith and try our best to be good humans. :)
