On the recommendation of Wraith...

I had to run over to Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits to get a bottle.  Good choice, my friend.

It gives you a nice warm glow...  :)

I recommend you drink it with ice.  Don't ruin it with a mixer (why would you, right?).  Very good.  Smooth.

Thanks for the recommendation, Wraith.

Range time...

 Big Thunder...

 Oldest son checking out Big Thunder...

 My first group.  10 rounds.  The 2 flyers were the first two shots.  I was pretty pleased with the other 8 rounds after settling in.   150 gr. FMJBT bullet and 41 gr. H335 powder.

 Second group.  2 clicks right and 5 rounds.  45 gr. BLC(2) powder.

 Third group.  5 rounds.  46 gr. BLC(2) powder.  Better :)

Fourth group.  5 rounds.  47 gr. BLC(2) powder.   Whoa!  Was it me, or was it the load?

20 rounds factory American Eagle 150 gr FMJBT.

The 10 holes punched by .308 rounds in the 9 and 10 rings were fired by my oldest son with Big Thunder.  He said he needs to shoot it more to get used to the trigger :)  That's my boy!
The .223 rounds were rapid-fired by me from a standing-unsupported position with my M4.  Yes, I fired the rounds that punched the holes in the cardboard below the target, too.  :(

My most basic AR15/M4gery.

Palmetto State Armory upper and lower.  I built 2 of these when they were considerably less expensive than they are today.    Very nice rifles.

~~~~~
The oldest son and I headed out to the range at the nearby county park at about 8:30 yesterday morning.  Shooting starts at 9 and we wanted to be there early to get a bench on one of the 100 yard lanes.  No such luck.  It was easy to do last weekend when it was 35 degrees outside.  It was 50 degrees yesterday and there were people sitting in their vehicles waiting for the 100 and 200 yard benches.  Some were still waiting when we left 2 hours later.
We took the benches to the far left of the 50 yard range.  Not my first choice, but not bad.
The purpose of the trip yesterday was for Carl to zero the scope on his 20" PSA AR  and I wanted to shoot some .308 rounds that I had reloaded.
Carl put quite a few rounds down range and got his scope zero'd and I did what I set out to accomplish.
I'm going to load up a bunch of .308 with 46 grains of BLC(2) and I'm going to mess around a little more with the H335.
Stay safe.
Because good parenting is just too hard...
I'm not talking about the teenagers to whom the "birth control" is being provided.  I'm talking about their parents and families.  And the liberal society in which they are being raised.
Responsibility?  Accountability?  Those are too hard, too.  Besides, it's a status symbol to be pregnant at 14.  Gets you street cred...
~~~~~

CBS News) NEW YORK - New York City's Department of Education has begun offering "morning after" contraceptive pills to students in a pilot program at 13 of the city's high schools.
CBS Station WCBS reports that, in an effort to combat teen pregnancy, school nurse offices have been stocked with Plan B emergency contraception.
The pills are being made available under a new school program known as CATCH (Connecting Adolescents To Comprehensive Health), which is aimed at stemming teen pregnancy.
This is the first time the city's public schools have dispensed hormonal birth control and Plan B, and it may be a first nationwide, according to the New York Post.
According to the city's data, more than 7,000 residents get pregnant by the time they are 17 years old. More than half of those pregnancies are aborted, the Department of Health said.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said she thinks the pilot program will help fight teen pregnancy.
"High school students are very sexually active and getting pregnant, so we don't have that luxury to think that they are too young to be engaged in conversations about contraception and sexual education," Quinn told WCBS.
The birth control will be available to students as young as 14 without parental notification.
The Department of Education has sent notes to parents alerting them about the new program and information on how to opt out. Just one to two percent of parents have opted out of the program, the DOE said.
New York City schools already distribute free condoms to students.

~~~~~
Only 1 to 2 percent of parents have objected to this program?  Children as young as 14?  Without parental notification?  Seriously?  Over half of the pregnancies end in abortion?  Do the parents know this?  Do they have to give their permission?
It's obvious that the parents don't care, which makes parental notification an exercise in futility anyway.
I don't believe that you can "fix" the problem by enabling and perpetuating the problem.
"Here ya go kiddies.  Have some rubbers and birth control pills.  Now go ahead and get jiggy.  If the inevitable happens, we'll give you the morning after pill Plan B."   What could go wrong?
Parts... (shameless advertising)
I was looking for "something different" for an air cleaner cover for the bike and came across this little gem...
Start with a stock chrome Harley derby cover, add some laser etching, and Voila'!  Something different!
The laser etched artwork is done by a gentleman in Lebanon, Ohio.  The quality is outstanding and his customer service is stellar.  I ordered the part Friday night and received it via USPS Priority Mail on Monday afternoon.
He also does powder coating and thermal marking on chrome parts.  He will custom manufacture billet parts for you on his CNC mill and lathe.
Pretty cool.
Surprised...?
The New York Times editorial of October 2, 1999, defends the display of Andres Serrano’s Piss Christ and Chris Ofili’s The Holy Virgin Mary:
A museum is obliged to challenge the public as well as to placate it, or else the museum becomes a chamber of attractive ghosts, an institution completely disconnected from art in our time.
The New York Times editorial of September 12, 2012, condemns the display of The Innocence of Muslims:
Whoever made the film did true damage to the interests of the United States and its core principle of respecting all faiths.
Whatever happened to “challenging the public”? Or is that obligation rendered non-obligatory when a certain public responds to challenges by killing people?
Let me say up-front that I realize it wasn't the movie that caused the violence going on in the Middle East right now.  It's the spineless administration in Washington and the spineless Politically Correct enablers of the administration in Washington that have caused this to happen.  Yeah, by spineless enablers I mean all of you who voted for this administration and continue to worship the man.   You know, you takers of "free stuff".
''I killed Osama"...  Yeah, that has A LOT to do with what's going on right now.
Blame the movie.
Blame the movie.
Blame the movie.
Even though "the movie" was on YouTube for months prior to the collective indignation of thousands of Middle Eastern Islamists all coming together on the eleventh anniversary of September 11th  (through a wild coincidence, no doubt), we are being told by our government and our media overlords that we must blame the movie.
You see, if we blame the movie for the burning of our foreign outposts and the brutal murders of four Americans (including our Libyan ambassador who was reportedly raped), we won't blame the burners and the looters and the murderers and the rapists.
You see, if we blame the movie for the Middle East burning, we won't blame the Islamists who are doing the burning and looting and raping and murdering.
Good article.  I particularly like the references to Bill Maher.  :)
I've said it a hundred times...  The people we elect are there to do our bidding.  They are there to comply with and carry out the will of The People.  That's the way it is supposed to work.   How long has it been since that has happened?  Is it the will of The People that the Congress and those in power continue to make more and more laws that restrict our freedoms?  Is it the will of The People to be spied upon by our government?  Look around yourself, see what is going on.  Open your fucking eyes!  I have to assume that it must be the will of The People to allow this crap to happen because no one is doing anything to stop or change it.
Why do we allow this?   It is our country.  OURS.  It doesn't belong to the "government" or to obama and his creeps or to any other individual.  It doesn't belong to DHS or TSA or any other government agency.  It belongs to The People.
Unless, of course, we hand our power over to the government. And to the people with the real power who pull the strings of our government.
I guess that's why we are where we are.  We're a bunch of fucking lazy-assed pussies who have been sucked up into the PC world pushed onto us by our government.  They tell us what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.  Have for years.
We get that which we deserve.
Well, almost...
Kinda true.  Well, not completely true.  Unless...  Well...  I guess it depends on how you look at it and who you believe.
There is the little problem of the Lockerbie bombing.
Some maintain that it was rogue Libyan elements who carried out the Lockerbie bombing on 21 December 1988 and that Qadaffi knew nothing about it until after the fact.  These folks contend that the bombing was not sponsored by nor condoned by the government of Libya.
Of course there are others who believe that Qadaffi hatched the plan himself and ordered it done.
Ya just never know.  And I doubt we ever will know.  Not that it matters.
Anyway, it's a nice "motivational" poster.  Unfortunately, it doesn't hold up.  Or does it?
The point?  I guess it's that we don't know who is telling the truth any longer.  We don't know who our friends are.  Within our own country, everyone hates everyone else.  The sides are hopelessly divided.  The Republicans have chosen a candidate that the people don't want.  The Democrats have obama.  It has become a game of using lies and misinformation to get into positions of power and then more, bigger lies, to stay in power.  And the people are so focused on their hatred of their neighbors that they cannot see what is happening to their country. And they eat this shit up.  The People are so certain that they're right that they will never even consider they might be wrong.
I have difficulty believing that it's an accident.
You'll have to pardon me if this post seems a bit incoherent.  I'm tired.  Physically and mentally tired.  And tired of all the bullshit.
There is so much going on in the world today that it is impossible to keep up with it.  And so much of it is bad.
Warrantless wiretaps...
I'm probably the last person on the intardnets to see this, but I'll post it anyway.  Everyone of you have probably already seen it.  Anyway...  Tell me what you think.
~~~~~

The House on Wednesday reauthorized for five years broad electronic eavesdropping powers that legalized and expanded the George W. Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program.
The FISA Amendments Act, (.pdf) which is expiring at year’s end, allows the government to electronically eavesdrop on Americans’ phone calls and e-mails without a probable-cause warrant so long as one of the parties to the communication is believed outside the United States. The communications may be intercepted “to acquire foreign intelligence information.”
The government has also interpreted the law to mean that as long as the real target is al-Qaida, the government can wiretap purely domestic e-mails and phone calls without getting a warrant from a judge. That’s according to David Kris, a former top anti-terrorism attorney at the Justice Department.
The measure is sponsored by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) and the Obama administration has called its passage a top intelligence priority. (.pdf) The bill generally requires the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Court to rubber-stamp terror-related electronic surveillance requests that ensnare Americans’ communications...

An Act of War...

Iowa's Chuck Grassley calls the rocket attack that killed the American Ambassador and 3 members of his staff in Libya "an act of war".  Well, Duh.

~~~~~
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --- The rocket attack in Libya that killed the U.S. ambassador to that country and three staff members should be treated “like an act of war,” Sen. Chuck Grassley said this morning.
“There ought to be serious implications,” the Iowa Republican said on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. “Particularly when you get a rocket attack, it’s an act of war and ought to be treated like an act of war.”
Grassley also expressed his regret to the families of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and other embassy staff who were killed in assault on the American consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi.
Stevens and the others were fleeing the consulate when a rocket-propelled grenade struck their vehicle, according to news reports from Benghazi.
Oh my...!
Exclusive from FOX News on Fast and Furious...
Dozens of senior-level U.S. government officials turned a blind eye to public safety as they pursued an ill-conceived and poorly managed investigation into gun trafficking in Mexico, according to a long-awaited inspector general's report on Operation Fast and Furious.
Portions of the Justice Department IG report, which has not been made public, were obtained exclusively by Fox News Channel.
The report and accompanying accounts cite a failure in leadership and a lack of accountability and oversight up and down the chain of command at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Justice Department itself and other offices. It says many senior executives knew the U.S. was helping traffic guns to Mexico that killed people but did nothing to stop it.
"We found no evidence in Operation Fast and Furious that the ATF or the (U.S. attorney's office) attempted at any point during the investigation to balance the risks to the public safety against the long-term benefits of identifying trafficking networks and participants," the draft report says.
What does it mean?  Probably that those in charge, and most culpable, will have an opportunity to "punish" their underlings and sweep the whole sordid affair under the rug, protecting those at the highest levels.
I say once again, an operation of this magnitude could not possibly have happened without the knowledge and approval of those at the very top.
I wonder how the timing of the release of these findings will impact the campaign strategy of the current administration?
Just in case I'm gone...
 From Clem...
    One day a woman's husband died, and on that clear, cold morning, in the warmth of their bedroom, the wife was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't "anymore".
        No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat, no more "just one minute."
        Sometimes, what we care about the most gets all used up and goes away, never to return before we can say good-bye, say "I love you."
        So while we have it, it's best we love it, care for it, fix it when it's broken and heal it when it's sick.
        This is true for marriage.....And old cars... And children with bad report cards, and dogs with bad hips, and aging parents and grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it.
        Some things we keep -- like a best friend who moved away or a sister-in-law after divorce. There are just some things that make us happy, no matter what.
        Life is important, like people we know who are special.  And so, we keep them close!
        Suppose one morning you never wake up, do all your friends know how you really feel? The important thing is to let every one of your friends know your true feelings, even if you think they don't love you back.
        So, just in case I'm gone tomorrow, please vote against that asshole Obama.
Stay safe.
True, but...
A true statement, yet it rings hollow coming from any "mainstream" politician.  Doesn't matter which of them is in office, they'll want to control us in some way.  They are all liars, thieves and criminals.  All of them.
Personally, I don't want to be controlled.  I don't want to be lied to.  I don't want to be stolen from.
"We" don't belong to government.  The government belongs to "us".  Nice how that is stated.  We, us...  How many people will read those words and believe that Mitt is one of "us"?  A lot, I suspect.  That's the way we Americans are.  We want to be told what to think, what to believe.  Subtle messages like this in political ads are powerful.  Throw the flag into the background and, voila'!  Believers.
Sad, isn't it?
Mitt isn't one of "us" anymore than obama is one of "us".  Politicians are a society unto themselves.  They don't give a fat rat's ass about "us".  They will give some of "us" free shit stuff at the expense of others of "us" in order to garner votes for themselves.  They are lower than low.  Maggots in the shit poop pile.  And they think that we think that they are what they say they are. Kind, noble, magnanimous leaders looking out for the welfare of the common man.   :)
Ever notice how obama doesn't often use The Flag as part of the propaganda symbolism of his regime?  Oh, he uses the colors of the flag.  Kinda.  Close enough that his cult thinks that it stands for the symbol of America.  But not quite.   That's the change he promised.  Down with America.  Up with the obamanation.
I want my "rightful liberty, according to my will, within the limits drawn around me by the equal rights of others".  You leave me alone, I'll leave you alone.  Fair enough?  Pretty simple.
The meddlers in Washington aren't about to let that happen.  They're all megalomaniacs who want to control the world.
Where will it end?
Carry my bags...
From The Weekly Standard...
"Former President Bill Clinton tried to get former senator Ted Kennedy to endorse Hillay Clinton for president in the 2008 election by describing Barack Obama this way: "A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags."
This anecdote is revealed in a New Yorker article on the relationship between Bill Clinton and Obama:
Tim Russert told me that, according to his sources, Bill Clinton, in an effort to secure an endorsement for Hillary from Ted Kennedy, said to Kennedy, “A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags.”
Clinton is giving a keynote address at the Democratic convention this week in Charlotte, North Carolina."
