The legislation known as the DREAM Act failed to get the votes needed in the Senate this morning. The Dems say they will not give up.
"A minority of senators prevented the Senate from doing what most Americans understand is best for the country. There was simply no reason not to pass this important legislation," Obama said in a statement. "It is disappointing that common sense did not prevail today."
"What most Americans understand is best"? "Common sense did not prevail"? I beg to differ. I think that for the first time in a long time common sense did prevail and that the failure of this legislation reflects what most Americans understand is best for the country. I pray that it's a sign of things to come.
Can you imagine the new government agency (or agencies) that would have to be created to administer and monitor this new program, had it succeeded? Surely it would have been too big for INS to operate on it's own. We'd have a new agency to create the rules it would be run by, an agency to administer it, and an agency to monitor it's success (too big to fail). It certainly would have created employment opportunites for a few thousand new government workers. (end sarcasm)

Like I have stated in the past: I'm not at all opposed to legal immigration. I'm all for that. Just do it right. I believe that we are probably the only developed country on the planet that does little, if anything, to seriously enforce controlled access to our borders. I wonder why?
