The NRA statement following today's meetings with Biden, et al.
~~~~~~
"The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million
moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national
conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever
happening again. We attended today's White House meeting to discuss how
to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful
conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of
violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of
violent criminals.
We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with
keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to
attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals
would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed
restrictions on lawful firearms owners - honest, taxpaying, hardworking
Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to
insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation's most pressing
problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the
acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment
and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who
are interested in having an honest conversation about what works - and
what does not."
Who is surprised that the White House is making this poltical? Sounds like the NRA may have it right this time.
As I have said before... I believe that all gun control measures are unconstitutional. Period.
I am willing to qualify that, just a little. I don't want people who are mentally incapable of safely owning a gun to have one. I don't want violent felons to have guns after they have been released from prison. That's as far as I'm willing to go with gun control. That, of course, is just me. How do you feel about it?
Stay safe.
Violent felons will get their guns from other sources anyway. I believe all laws that restrict any small arms ownership are wrong. I too hope the NRA stands strong. I wish someone would tell Biden that there will be blood if ANYTHING else is restricted. -55six
Sounds just like I thought it would be. " You're not here for your input, you're here so it looks like we talked to you. You'll take what we say and like it."
Dog and pony show. It expected nothing more.
I'd love to read a transcript of the meeting. I'm sure we'll hear more from the NRA, tomorrow.
David... I'll be interested in hearing how the Wal Mart rep handled himself and how he handled the threats from Biden.
"Shall not be infringed."
PERIOD
Just a taste of how things went with Uncle Joe and the NRA. The following quote is from a Reuters article.
"Biden sat down for about an hour and a half of talks with an NRA representative and officials from other gun owners' groups after telling reporters he is likely to recommend background checks for all gun buyers and a ban on high-capacity ammunition clips."
He told met with gun owners groups AFTER telling reporters he is likely to recommmend background checks for all gun guyers and a ban on high capacity mags. I say again, AFTER. He had no intention of considering anything the NRA had to say.
Does anyone know anyone who has a wheelchair accessible apartment for rent, in Wyoming? I don't need anything fancy.
Someone is selling one of the original assault weapons on Ebay:
It's a caveman's AR (assault rock) 15.
Lighten up, guys. Smile at the bottom of that breath. Squeeze.
Molon labe.
This has been preplanned for a long time and we are behind the curve, time to catch up. The shock will be when the people you think are on your side, change sides. Greed drives a lot of peoples loyalties.
.Gov will start by squeezing bank accounts.
David... That Assault Rock is a great idea! LOL. Love it!
I read a different article about the 100,000 new members. Sounded like they lost a few after Lapierre was on tv but still had a net gain of 100,000 over previous membership numbers. From 4.1 million to 4.2
Pretty impressive. Probably coming from the NRA introduction kit included with most new firearms :)
Millwright... I don't doubt for a second that they will squeeze bank accounts. Some things are more valuable than money... :) Thanks for stopping by!
Today 10 January 2013: discharged a firearm for the first time since the summer of 1961.
Twenty rounds of .38 special fired through a Ruger Blackhawk at a man-sized silhouette target at 21 feet.
I did a lot better than I thought I would:
3.5 in the X area,
1.5 in the 10 (1 on the line),
7 in the 9,
5 in the 8,
3 in the 7,
none elsewhere and no misses.
My Pop taught me gun control before I was 10: aim carefully, squeeze gently.
Bob... That's good work! Excellent!
I'd score that 4 in the X and 1 in the 10. :)
No doubt about it, that's good gun control.
How do you like the Blackhawk?
Tino... Yep, that's where I always end up when I have this discussion with myself. Always. It's the only way that works.
Thanks for your comment.
Guffaw... I hear ya! :)
