The missus' new gun...
She talked to the salesman by herself and got all of her questions answered. He didn't treat her like "some dumb broad" and he showed her the pistols that she asked to look at. (LC9, LCP, and Kahr PM9) She explained to him that she has arthritis in her hands and he made sure that this pistol would work for her. (A very important requirement. The LC9 worked perfectly for her.) He never once tried to pressure her into something more expensive.
He asked me just one time if I wanted to look at the gun and I told him "no, it isn't for me". After that I was completely out of the picture. I actually walked away and looked at some other guns while they talked.
He did a good job. She filled out the 4473 and paid for the gun all by herself. He showed her the safety features and the all of the documentation in the box as required by law. I was impressed with the entire transaction and very proud of her. I think she felt good about the way it went with the salesman and with the overall experience.
We aren't strangers in this gun shop and the salesman knew who we were, but he isn't the person I usually deal with when buying guns. "My guy" had the weekend off.
She has an LCR in .357 magnum that I bought for her a few months ago. She shoots that just fine. She certainly isn't a stranger to firearms. She just wanted a pistol rather than a revolver.
Buying a gun "all by yourself" for the first time is kind of a big deal. :) She had a smile on her face all the way home.
Anyway, gotta find some 9mm ammo now. :)

speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and

SLC...
Sitting in SLC airport waiting to head home after 2 weeks out here. Working:)
I turned in my rental car, checked my bag, and got through security in less than 25 minutes. Pretty good.
There are some TSA members on a power trip. I got sent through the scanner when I left home and now when I'm going home. No biggie. Except this time a TSA agent was waiting on the other side of the scanner.
"Stop here, sir" in his most commanding, authoritative voice. He looked me up and down like a Drill Sargeant looks over a recruit in Basic. Then he says, again in that voice, "OK, step aside. All I could think was "Fuck You". I dislike commercial air travel. It's no fun anymore.
Anyway, I'll be home in a few hours.

Pissin' in the wind...
A growing number of companies that manufacture firearms, firearms parts, and firearms accesories have made the decision not to sell their products to law enforcement in locales that do not allow the same products to be sold to law abiding citizens in those areas. I think it's a good start and I applaud the companies that have taken this stand. It has the potential to hit these companies directly in the pocket book. That takes some amount of courage for a business to do that.
I see a couple of problems with it though...
The big names like Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Remington, Colt, etc. need to get on board also. They need to think about The Constitution and about The People. Look to the future. If law abiding citizens lose their right to keep and bear arms, you have no customers. Of course, you'll be owned by The State then, so it probably doesn't matter one way or the other.
And the ammunition manufacturers need to get with the program. Don't bid on those government contracts. Will they ever do that? I don't think so.
The biggest problem I see though, is that there will come a point when DOJ, DHS, DOD, or some other alphabet agency will supply the law enforcement organizations that the manufacturers won't. Want an M82 or an M107 .50 BMG rifle for your local police department SWAT team and Ronnie Barrett won't sell you one? DHS will help. Need some AR 15s and Rock River won't provide them? DOJ has your back. Or Remington or Colt... The departments may have to spend a few more tax payer dolars, but they'll get what they want. Hell, all the departments have to do is recruit a couple of citizens to go buy their toys for them. Who would ever know? You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. I mean, hell, how many Barretts does one department "need"?
Like I said, I'm happy to see these companies step up in support of The Second. Its the right thing to do. I just don't think it will do much good. Pissin' in the wind. Spittin' in the ocean. Fartin' in a windstorm...
Still... Ya gotta start somewhere.

Filibuster and threats from on high...
White House Warns Cruz, Paul, Lee Not to Filibuster Gun Control Bills
Rand Paul’s leading of a filibuster over the executive authority to drone bomb Americans was extremely effective: a whopping 50-point turnaround in public opinion on the issue. As Paul alluded to, it was ‘just the beginning.’
Senators Rand Paul, Mike Lee and Ted Cruz have signaled they will filibuster “any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions.” White House press secretary Jay Carney has already issued a thinly veiled threat from the White House.
“Filibusters of efforts to move forward with common-sense measures to reduce gun violence would be unfortunate,” Carney said. “We have worked with Congress, with the Senate, to try to advance the elements of the president’s plan that require legislative action and these again are common-sense measures.”
The word ‘unfortunate’ is suggestive — kind of like how a guy who owns a loan shark ten grand falls down a flight of stairs and that is ‘unfortunate.’ In any event, one doubts these three Senators will cut and run on their principles, just because of a warning from the president or insinuations that they just don’t care as much about gun shooting victims.

Seems to me that Paul, Cruz, and Hill have the right idea. Of course they are trying to gain political capital with Conservatives in preperation for the next election, but that's alright. It's the way it works.

Remote control...
The aim of public education is not to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence. ... Nothing could be further from the truth. The aim ... is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is the aim in the United States and that is its aim everywhere else. ~ H. L. Mencken, 1924.

Oh my! How times have changed...
I spent the morning and a bit of the early afternoon at the Hill Aerospace Museum at Hill AFB here in Utah. I love me some aviation and aviation history. A year ago, the Missus and I spent the better part of a day at the National Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.
Anyway...
Look at the pics. I can't imagine a newspaper today using non politically correct language like Nips and Japs, such as the newspaper shown above. Even the term "older men" probably wouldn't be used today.
Not sure how well you can see the nose art on the B-17. It is a picture of Hitler sitting in a casket with his feet sticking out the end. We would be respectful of him today, lest we offend our enemies, or worse, a citizen.
I included the Cold War picture simply because I served for 7 1/2 years during that "war". Over 5 of those years in Germany. I spent 3 of those years in Germany with a Pershing 1A missle unit. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, it was a war. We won it. Or did we? We thought we had crushed the Communists but hey, they are alive and well. They have made it to our shores.
I think we were better off as a nation prior to the introduction of PC. We no longer say what we mean, for fear of offending someone. We still think it. We just bottle it up inside and pretend that we are tolerant and so much wiser.
PC allows the pussies to run our world. I don't like it much. Not much at all. We have bred a nation of weak, self-centered, ignorant pussies.
That's all I have to say today.
Stay safe.

My thoughts on The Second...
It says:
"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Throw out your fears, biases and predjudices then read that again..
"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
It isn't difficult at all to understand the Second Amendment. Its words were chosen very carefully in order that every person could understand it. It was written to prevent the government from infringing in any way, shape, or form upon the Natural Right of the law abiding citizen to keep and bear arms and to use those arms to protect himself and others from anyone who would do him harm.
It was expected that the law abiding citizen would do whatever was necessary to prevent the right being infringed. It was understood that The Second protects all other rights. It was assumed that no citizen who loved liberty would be willing to give up any of their Natural Rights.
It is difficult, near impossible, to understand any law abiding citizen or group of citizens who would allow anyone to put restrictions or limitations upon any of their God given rights. Period.

Handguns are next...
Illinois Congresswoman says handgun bans are next
Schakowsky made these comments to a reporter at the One Billion Rising Women’s Rights Rally in February.
Referring to the Sandy Hook tragedy as “a moment of opportunity,” Schakowsky went on to say that “everything [is] on the table … There’s no question about it. We’re on a roll now, and I think we’ve got to … push as hard as we can and as far as we can.”
When pressed on exactly what that meant, Schakowsky noted that her choice for the next ban would be handguns, followed by allowing individual communities to deny Second Amendment rights to those who live or travel within their boundaries.

More Dr. Benjamin Carson...
Dr. Benjamin Carson made some more controversial statements Saturday.

Appearing on Fox News's America's News Headquarters, Carson said, "The bullies are the people, especially the media who like to just beat on anybody who doesn't toe the line...they suppress freedom of speech" (video follows with transcript and absolutely no need for additional commentary):
UMA PEMMARAJU, HOST: Why do you think your message is resonating with so many people?
DR. BENJAMIN CARSON: Because I think there are a lot of people who have been bludgeoned into silence who really feel very strongly about the values of this country, and they don't think that there is anything they can do now. And finally when somebody speaks up about it, they resonate with that. You know, I’ve gotten so many letters from people who said they had given up, and now they were invigorated again. Every place I go, people come up to me and tell me that. And, you know, it makes me understand that there is a large number of frustrated people out there. They just don't feel like they're being represented.
PEMMARAJU: Well, you take aim at political correctness in this country, and you have said somebody has to stand up, quote, to the bullies. Who are the bullies that you're referring to?
CARSON: The bullies are the people, especially the media who like to just beat on anybody who doesn't toe the line, who doesn't say what they're supposed to say, and act the way they're supposed to act. And they suppress freedom of speech and freedom of expression and people have succumbed to that.
And what I'm telling people to do is don't succumb to it. You know, talk about what you think is right. You need to talk to even the people who represent you, because a lot of those people don't really know what you feel if you don't really speak up and tell them. And they, instead, begin to listen to the special interest groups and the people who are paying them lots of money. And really that's not the way that the system was set up.

On obama and drones...
President Barack Obama has the legal authority to unleash deadly force—such as
drone strikes—against Americans on U.S. soil without first putting them on
trial, Attorney General Eric
Holder wrote in a letter released Tuesday.
But Holder, writing to Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, underlined that
Obama “has no intention” of targeting his fellow citizens with unmanned aerial
vehicles and would do so only if facing “an extraordinary circumstance.”Paul had asked the Obama administration on Feb. 20 whether the president "has the power to authorize lethal force, such as a drone strike, against a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil and without trial." On Tuesday, he denounced Holder's response as “frightening” and “an affront to the Constitutional due process rights of all Americans.”

Dangerous thoughts...
Radically Wrong: The Right to Think Dangerous Thoughts
By Gabe Rottman, Legislative Counsel, ACLU Washington Legislative Office at 11:14am
Despite evidence to the contrary, the government
continues to embrace a theory that adopting radical ideas is a first
step toward terrorist violence. Based on this discredited model,
"preventive" policies are being pursued, resulting in discrimination,
suspicionless surveillance of entire communities, and selective law
enforcement against belief communities and political activists. The
following is the third installment in the ACLU blog series "Radically Wrong," which highlights counterterrorism policies that are not only ineffective, but also undermine our constitutional rights.Earlier this month, the White House blogged about its commitment to empower "members of the public to protect themselves against the full range of online threats, including online radicalization to violence," and announced the creation of a new interagency working group for that purpose. The working group will coordinate the government's efforts and develop plans—alongside private industry—to "implement an Internet safety approach to address online extremism."
The White House initiative raises a basic question: Is it appropriate for the government (in cahoots with private industry) to repurpose programs that, for instance, urge consumers to install anti-virus software and protect their credit card information into something that warns them against "bad" ideas?

So many things are happening within our government today to undermine our rights and to completely control us that we cannot possibly keep up with it all. While we focus nearly 100% on the Second Amendment violations that are being perpetrated upon us, our government is working on more ways to completely and totally control us.
The sad reality is that they have won. The majority of people who support obama and what he is doing are too stupid to understand whats going on. Unfortunately, it has been going on for a long time, long before obama.
It seems to me that obama's handlers are tired of waiting and they want their change now.
It all ties together, ya know. They can't assume the control they desire until the guns are gone. They don't care about the guns that are in the hands of criminals. Never have. Those guns are merely a small part of the total. They don't matter. Besides, they may want those guns in the hands of criminals. Guns in the hands of criminals may fit right into their plans.
Why do you suppose they keep pushing gun control in light of the well known fact that gun control doesn't work? Look at any major city. Look at the cities like Chicago, New York, and Washington D.C.. The "would be" controllers don't even speak publicly about those areas when attempting to force more gun control. If it is brought up in conversation, they ignore it and continue on with their anti-gun diatribe.
What they do care about are the 300 million or so guns that are in the hands of law abiding citizens. Those guns can make the implementation of their plans extremely difficult, if not impossible. Those guns can be a serious problem to the success of their plans.
Have you noticed that the states have taken up the gun control mantra? Why is that? Do you suppose that obama and his minions realize that federal gun control is going nowhere and are pushing the states to implement their own gun control policies?
If you think that the politicians are telling you the truth when they say they support The Second and that they have no plans for registration or confiscation, if you believe that, you are stupid. A special kind of stupid. You don't want to believe what you see with your own eyes. You'd rather believe the lies you are being told, even though you know they are lies.
Over a third of the population of Amerika own guns. Half of those people will turn them in or register them immediately if the government tells them to. Half of those that remain will comply when the threat of punishment becomes real. We are primarily a nation of law abiding citizens. We do what we are told.
For at least the past 40 years or so, we have been taught that industry and ingenuity are bad things. We have been shown that the confident, capable American is an arrogant, selfish man and is not to be tolerated. We have been beat down to become a nation of mediocrity in order to make the less capable and the lazy feel good about themselves. We have been forced to share the fruits of our labors with those who will not work in order that they may lead a lifestyle similar to ours. We have been brought down through government programs and taxation so that the leeches of our society can be brought up. The harder we work, the more they take.
It has happened incrementally, one small bit at a time. Most of us didn't even know it was happening. Some still deny it.
Anyway, that is the end of my rant for this morning.
Have a great day.
Stay safe.

Drones and The Holocaust and things...

We learned this through documents we released today, received in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. The documents are available here. (We also released a short log of drone accidents from the Federal Aviation Administration as well as accident reports and other documents from the U.S. Air Force.) This revelation comes a week after a bipartisan bill to protect Americans’ privacy from domestic drones was introduced in the House.
Although the Marshals Service told us it found 30 pages about its drones program in response to our FOIA request, it turned over only two of those pages—and even they were heavily redacted.
Here’s what we know from the two short paragraphs of text we were able to see. Under a header entitled “Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Man-Portable (UAV) Program,” an agency document overview begins:

New Documents Reveal U.S. Marshals’ Drones Experiment, Underscoring Need for Government Transparency

The use of surveillance drones is growing rapidly

It does not say that "reasonable" limitations or restrictions may be placed on the right of the law abiding citizen to keep and bear arms.
