Al Qaeda Incapable Of New Mass-Casualty Attack, U.S. Officials Say

By Mark Hosenball

WASHINGTON, April 27 (Reuters) - Al Qaeda's core organization is likely incapable of carrying out another mass-casualty attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001, U.S. intelligence and counter-terrorism officials said on Friday.

U.S. government experts also believe that the likelihood of an attack using chemical, biological, atomic or radiological weapons over the next year was not high, said Robert Cardillo, deputy director of U.S. National Intelligence.

Cardillo and other U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described these assessments on a conference call with journalists billed as an opportunity for government experts to voice their assessments of al Qaeda's potency a year after the killing of Osama bin Laden in a U.S. commando raid.

Cardillo said the al Qaeda "core" organization that bin Laden created has suffered strategic setbacks due to the outbreak of "Arab Spring" protests and rebellions in Islamic countries, which have not spread great sympathy for al Qaeda's hardline and violent brand of Islam.

More worrying to U.S. counter-terrorism officials and their allies abroad is the possibility of home-grown extremists, or "lone wolves," who are radicalized over the Internet or in small cells, but who also now are being given encouragement by media outlets connected to al Qaeda and its affiliates.

While they were unwilling to declare that al Qaeda was on the brink of "strategic defeat," the U.S. officials did say they believed the central organization founded by bin Laden simply was not capable today of marshalling the kind of resources and planning that went into the deadly suicide airplane hijackings of Sept. 11, 2001.

The officials said that the United States regards four al Qaeda spinoffs or affiliates as still posing threats of greater or lesser degree to U.S. interests.

Most deadly, the officials said, was Yemen-based al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which U.S. officials believe was behind unsuccessful but imaginative attempts to attack continental U.S. targets over the last 18 months using airplane-borne bombs stashed in a passenger's underwear and in photocopier ink cartridges.

Al Qaeda in Iraq, which arose in the wake of the 2003 U.S. invasion to oust Saddam Hussein, remains a potentially lethal presence in that country and may be expanding its activities into neighboring Syria, though officials did not indicate they believe it poses much of a threat to U.S. interests outside that region.

U.S. officials said they regarded al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), an affiliate based in North Africa, as largely a criminal organization engaged in kidnapping Westerners for ransom. But they said they were concerned such tactics could evolve into more spectacular kidnappings intended to win publicity for militant causes.

U.S. officials said that after a period in which their struggle became a magnet for disillusioned Islamic youths in both the United States and Europe, al Qaeda's Somali affiliate, al Shabaab, has seen a measurable falloff in Western recruiting and support.

On balance, a counter-terrorism official said, it was "clear we've made progress towards defeating al Qaeda the organization," though elements of both the ideology and the organization certainly remain, including "a number of active networks in the United Kingdom." (Editing by Eric Beech)

Reread paragraph 5, re-posted below.:

"More worrying to U.S. counter-terrorism officials and their allies abroad is the possibility of home-grown extremists, or "lone wolves," who are radicalized over the Internet or in small cells, but who also now are being given encouragement by media outlets connected to al Qaeda and its affiliates."

Might this statement reasonably be interpreted to mean that anyone who has an opinion and expresses it "over the internet" could be considered a terrorist?  How about a group of individuals that might get together to discuss common interests?

Let me modify paragraph 5 ever so slightly:

 "More worrying to U.S. counter-terrorism officials and their allies abroad is the possibility of home-grown extremists, or "lone wolves," who are radicalized over the Internet or in small cells."

See what I mean?

I think that if you aren't concerned, you should be.  Just sayin'...

Big Sis and the .gov need a bogeyman, ya know.  Its what puts bread on their tables.  It keeps them in power.  It allows them to extend their control.

Whom will they decide are the new threat?

The list is long, but distinguished.  :)

The ground work is being laid.  The finishing touches are being implemented.  I wonder who they'll target first?

Do you think you can stop it?  LOL.  Not happenin', friends.  It now has a life of its own.

Outrage as Egypt plans 'farewell intercourse law' so husbands can have sex with DEAD wives up to six hours after their death

By Lee Moran
|
Egyptian husbands will soon be legally allowed to have sex with their dead wives - for up to six hours after their death.
The controversial new law is part of a raft of measures being introduced by the Islamist-dominated parliament.
It will also see the minimum age of marriage lowered to 14 and the ridding of women's rights of getting education and employment.

If they are considering making it law, there must be a reason.  Apparently some Egyptian men want to defile the corpses of their wives.  Why else would they propose such a law?

Necrophilia.  How can a mental disorder become law?   When sick minds make the laws.

Testing...

Also, something I read today: "As a former fetus, I oppose abortion".

I also read that large numbers of young people are unemployed or under-employed and are disillusioned with obama and that they no longer support him.  That's good news (I think  :)

One of my co-workers had nose surgery a couple of months ago to correct a previously broken nose and, during the same surgery, had his sinuses "scraped" to clear up a long term sinus infection.  He had a follow up exam a couple of weeks ago and it was discovered that the sinus infection isn't completely cleared up.  His doctor prescribed one of those breathing machines that you use at night.  It mixes a steroid and an antibiotic in a stream of air that you breathe through a face-mask while you sleep.  Anyway, the only company who sells this particular machine and the meds that go with it is located in the People's Republic of California.  He has been playing phone tag with this company since the doctor prescribed the machine and meds two weeks ago.  They finally talked today and the gal in California asked Mike if he had insurance.  He replied that he did. She then told him that the machine and meds will cost him $473 and that his insurance will pay it all.  She then told him that if his deductible has not been met that the insurance company would pay any balance remaining after his deductible had been met. If he didn't want to claim it on his insurance and have it go toward his deductible he could get the machine and the meds for a one time payment of $178.

Let me get this straight...  If you claim it against your insurance it will cost $473, but if you pay it out of pocket it will cost you $178.

Let me rephrase that:  If your insurance company pays for it the cost is $473.  If you pay for it yourself the cost is $178.

Do you see anything wrong with this picture?

Is the nebulizer provider charging $295 to file the insurance claim, or is the insurance company willing to pay $295 more than the patient would pay out of pocket if he didn't file an insurance claim?  Either way, they are willing to pay the whole thing.  Maybe the nebulizer people are ripping off the insurance companies?

I told him to pay the $178 then file it with our insurance company so that it will (still) go toward his deductible.  (We have a "High Deductible HSA" plan and his deductible has not been met this year.  He'll be out $178 instead of $473 and he gets the same machine and meds.)

Oh well.  Seems like the insurance companies are just as free and easy with our money as the government is.  I still can't figure out why insurance is so expensive. :)

well said, Ann.
I guess we now know why the Secret Service hasn't done anything about the usurper non-American Obama. They're all a bunch of moral degenerates without any honor or integrity. This culture has been duped by the Marxist cultural and media infiltration into believing that a person's sexual conduct doesn't matter. Well, it does. It is reported today that the unofficial motto among married Secret Service agents is "Wheels up, rings off."

Back home...

Judy and I spent last week traveling through Indiana and Ohio with a side trip to Charleston, West Virginia.

 USAF National Museum in Dayton, Ohio
 Thanking those who, at great personal risk, helped.

 David P. and Naomi :)
60 tires on the trailer, 14 on the tractor.
 Memorial to Merchant Marines in Ashtabula, Ohio
Draw bridge in Ashtabula

We left with no particular agenda in mind.  My wife's family moved to Wisconsin, and some eventually to Iowa, through Ohio and Indiana.  We did what we often do on vacation, which is to search cemeteries for ancestors.  She enjoys that a lot more than I do, but hey, she puts up with the things I like to do.  :)

Along with the cemeteries, we saw a lot of covered bridges in extreme northeast Ohio as well as Lake Erie at Ashtabula.  It was a good trip.

On Friday we took a side trip to see my old friend David P. in Charleston, West Virginia.  David was a Cobra pilot in the Army with my younger brother until an accident left him paralyzed from the waist down.  It doesn't slow him down much.  He competes in marathons and triathlons and is currently taking care of his 2 year old grand daughter while her mother is at sea and her daddy (David's son) is at a military training school.  Both are Marines.  David is a proud father!  Anyway, it was great to see David and Naomi as well as David's sister.

We headed back to Iowa on Friday night with stops in Indiana on Saturday to do some more "cemeteryin'" and to see Brigid of Mausers & Muffins fame.  What a wonderful lady!  We had a totally enjoyable 2 hour conversation on many topics, but seemed to keep drifting back to aviation.  Common interest, I guess.  Also got to meet her famous dog, Barkley.  What a treat!

It's good to be back home but it was a great vacation.

The Nature of Government...

We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission.
~~~Ayn Rand
"A society that robs an individual of the product of his effort, or enslaves him, or attempts to limit the freedom of his mind, or compels him to act against his own rational judgment-a society that sets up a conflict between its edicts and the requirements of man’s nature—is not, strictly speaking, a society, but a mob held together by institutionalized gang-rule. Such a society destroys all the values of human coexistence, has no possible justification and represents, not a source of benefits, but the deadliest threat to man’s survival. Life on a desert island is safer than and incomparably preferable to existence in Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany."
How did I miss this...?
“Neo-Nazi serial killer” is actually a Muslim Jihadist. Media lied again.
A series of spree killings in France became the single biggest news story in the entire world when the media declared that the perpetrator would turn out to be “a Neo-Nazi.” Once again the media was desperately trying to a make a story fit the political narrative they wanted it to.
Big Surprise. The suspect is an Algerian Muslim Jihadist/Terrorist. He was originally apprehended by the US Army in Afghanistan and turned over to France. The US Army believed him to be connected to Al Quaida. The liberal French authorities set him free in France.
BACKFIRE!!!
Left-wing French news outlets were already reporting that the “Neo-Nazi serial spree killer” would hurt the president campaign of Marine Le Pen. Now that it has been revealed that the killer is an Algerian Jihadist who was coddled by the French authorities, the UK Guardian is calling the events “a gift to the far-right.”
Weird, eh?  The French have a problem with the media telling the "truth" too?  Wow.
Why Do ‘Uniformed Military’ Get to Board Planes First?
From David P. in S.C.
Verbatim Post
As you read this article, recall that, in 1970, Bill Ayers plotted to detonate a bomb in the Fort Dix NCO Club, during a dance.
Actual Bill Ayers Rant: Why Do ‘Uniformed Military’ Get to Board Planes First?
Bill Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohrn paid an impromptu visit to Occupy Wall Street in New York City Friday, bestowing their advice to a gaggle of elated protesters. Ayers and Dohrn, former leaders of the violent leftist Weather Underground group, were greeted like rock stars at the camp. A reception, you'll soon hear, they wouldn't want to give the nation's military members.
The couple passed along protesting and anti-military nuggets of wisdom to the youngsters who received it in good spirits. For example, the former confidants to President Obama made sure to mention that America is "a declining power" that must depend on "a militarized 1%."
Dohrn didn't parse words:
"In a declining empire, which, you know, the United States is, lets agree, the United States is a declining economic and political power even while its a veralent and expanding military power, a very dangerous combination. But in that, I just want to suggest that I think that what looks very strong is often very weak. It is very weak. Even though, this military force, the United States is Sparta. Yes, in many ways, national security ... its all The United States seems to have to offer. It isn't jobs or healthcare or public education or public parks or public libraries, it's security, security, security. We don't want that kind of a future, Occupy doesn't want that kind of a future." [Emphasis added]
http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/TheBlaze/dohrn-at-occupy.jpgdohrn at occupy
On that note, Ayers lamented the special treatment American military members receive on domestic flights. He recalled his flight to New York and how service members were allowed to board first:
"We are living in a militarized society. That, that, it's clear what the message is from power. The message is that Occupy represents violence, and marginalization and insanity, when in reality it's the 1% that represents violence, and insanity and militarism. We've got a militarized society and its become so common sense that, getting on the airplane coming out here, the first thing they said was let all the, uhh, let all the ya know, uniformed military get on first and thank you for your service. And I said as I always do: let's let the teachers and nurses get on first and thank them for their service. I mean, why is it that everything military has got to be good and everything that has to do with actual work, real work, not jobs, real work for people, that stuff gets discouraged and marginalized." [Emphasis added]
http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/TheBlaze/bill-ayers-at-occupy.jpgbill ayers at occupy
Capitalism took it on the chin as well. A recent Blaze article by Madeleine Morgenstern highlighted Ayers stating his everyday dream: “Today I’m going to end capitalism." But what you have not heard is what Ayers said beforehand.
"We have to begin to imagine a world without war, a world without prisons, a world without borders," he explained before adding, "We can't imagine a world without Capitalism!? What the F--k would that look like?"
"But actually, I can imagine it, and I want you to imagine it."
Dohrn went on to say the U.S. should cancel all student debt.
But the pair didn't end their theorizing there. In fact, they even went on to broach Obama's controversial former pastor Jeremiah Wright. According to Dohrn, Wright is an "incredible guy":
"Take Jeremiah Wright, Rev. Jeremiah Wright in the last election, right? An incredible guy. ... He has had this absolutely exemplary life in the church and what happens to him? He's in a nano second demonized, just boom, like that. ... So invite him to Occupy is what I'm saying. His way was he belonged to a very big community.
"He's a deep and fabulous guy," Dohrn concluded, "so invite him to speak."
The sounds of silence...
I'm shocked.  Totally shocked.  I cannot believe that no major media outlet has picked up the story out of Sanford, Florida about the misguided teens Yahaziel Israel & Julius Benderfrom.  I would think, given the recent coverage of the Trayvon Martin thingy from the same locale, that the major news outlets would be sending their top reporters out to cover this story 24/7.  Or is the story of two black teenagers beating a white man nearly to death with hammers (What?  Not a gun?) so commonplace that it doesn't warrant anything other than local news coverage?
I'm confused.
Weird, huh?  I'd like to say that the kid on that left looks like he could be obama's son (Imaginary son.  obama has 2 daughters, no sons), but so many others have already said it that I won't.
