My helper...
A clean patch...
Ready to push the rod through...
Another clean patch...
Wiping the bolt...
The oldest son and I went to the range yesterday. It was 22* outside with a bit of a breeze out of the southwest, or a quartering tailwind... The son had the 100 yard lane, I had the 250 yard lane right next to him. I wasn't impressed with my shooting. Yeah, I hit the target every time. Just not where I wanted to hit it. Oh well. I took both Remington 700s and a bunch of ammo I had reloaded. I guess we all have our bad days... :(
When we came home I started to clean and tumble brass. The grand-daughter wanted to help. I think she liked the idea of having her hands in the corn cob media while the tumbler was running. She did alright pulling the lever to full length size .223 brass but the .308 was a bit tougher for her. She stuck with it!
She spent the night and wanted to help clean rifles this morning. She is learning! I guess I should purchase a fiberglass rod or a bore guide, though. She doesn't finesse the rod into the chamber and bore... More like the proverbial bull in the china shop.
Anyway, she is learning. She seems to want to do whatever "Papa" is doing.
Life is good.

Confiscation...
From David P.
Proclamation by President Franklin Roosevelt, April 5, 1933
I, as President do declare that the national emergency still exists; that the continued private hoarding of gold and silver by subjects of the United States poses a grave threat to peace, equal justice, and the well-being of the United States; and that appropriate measures must be taken immediately to protect the interest of our people. Therefore, pursuant to the above authority, I hereby proclaim that such gold and silver holdings are prohibited, and that all such coin, bullion or other possessions of gold and silver be tendered within fourteen days to agents of the Government of the United States for compensation at the official price, in the legal tender of the Government. All safe deposit boxes in banks and financial institutions have been sealed pending action in the due course of the law. All sales or purchases or movements of such gold and silver within the borders of the United States and it's territories, and all foreign exchange transactions or movements of such metals across the border are hereby prohibited.
Background info here.
What does that mean, "equal justice"? Just curious. Seems a bit ambiguous, a bit subjective. That term just happened to catch my eye.
Anyway...
An Executive Order, the stroke of a pen... One man's decision. It becomes the law of the land. See how easy that was? Its for the common good, ya know.
Imagine what else they could confiscate via Executive Order. Pretty much anything, I'd guess. And they will. And you know it. They will take from the Makers to give to the Takers. They will take it all. Everything. Do you know what will allow them to do it? The fact that no one will resist it. Incremental dissolution of our rights. Incremental theft of our property, including the earnings of our labor. One small bite at a time. NO ONE WILL RESIST IT. You know that's true. Think about that.
Stay safe.

Thanksgiving...
I have much to be thankful for. Not just today, but every day.
My youngest son is home from Arizona for a few days. He looks like a mountain man. It has been a year and a half since we have been together... :) I am happy to see him.
We will soon gather as a family to enjoy food and spirits and to partake in the fellowship of family. It will be good.
I am thankful for family and friends and opportunities. Opportunities I have had and opportunities not yet realized. Yes, there will be opportunities for all of us in the next couple of years. I hope that we are astute enough to recognize them when they appear and brave enough to take advantage of them when we can.
Anyway...
I truly hope that each and every one of you has much to be thankful for and that you enjoy this day.

From David P.
"We are at war with the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in his long climb from the swamp to the stars, and it has been said if we lost that war, and in doing so lost this way of freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its happening. ... If we lost freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth."

Tid Bits to brighten your day...
From David P. in S.C.
"With all these affairs going on in the military, Bill Clinton's gotta be kicking himself for dodging the draft. I mean, look at what he missed. ... It sure seems to me that we have way too many generals taking orders from their privates." --radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh
~~~~~
"Every nation has the government it deserves." --Savoyard philosopher Joseph de Maistre (1753-1821)
~~~~~
"So the administration would have us believe that only after the election was the president told by the FBI that an investigation with possible national-security implications -- involving no less than the director of the Central Intelligence Agency -- has been going on since the summer. We're also to believe that the director's resignation after the election and before congressional hearings on Benghazi is purely coincidental. Not only that, but when the most powerful man in the world learned of the attack on our consulate in Benghazi, he immediately ordered that everything be done to secure all personnel at the site -- but apparently, everyone ignored him. So he did what any commander in chief would do under such circumstances -- he went to bed. Yes, they really do think we're that stupid." --attorney Peter Kirsanow
~~~~~
"Quite aside from the immediate effects of particular policies, Barack Obama has repeatedly circumvented the laws, including the Constitution of the United States, in ways and on a scale that pushes this nation in the direction of arbitrary one-man rule. Now that Obama will be in a position to appoint Supreme Court justices who can rubber stamp his evasions of the law and usurpations of power, this country may be unrecognizable in a few years as the America that once led the world in freedom, as well as in many other things. Barack Obama's boast, on the eve of the election of 2008 -- 'We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America' -- can now be carried out, without fear of ever having to face the voters again. This 'transforming' project extends far beyond fundamental internal institutions, or even the polarization and corruption of the people themselves, with goodies handed out in exchange for their surrendering their birthright of freedom." --economist Thomas Sowell
~~~~~
"Yes, they really do think we're that stupid."
I don't know if they really think we're that stupid. I do think that they are absolutely secure in their belief that we won't do anything about any of their transgressions.
Hmmm.... I wonder...

Petition...
There are a lot of "petitions" out there on the White House website. There are two or three of particular interest...
"Deport Everyone Who Signed A Petition To Withdraw Their State From The United States Of America". This one has 14.377 signatures.
"Strip the Citizenship from Everyone who Signed a Petition to Secede and Exile Them". This one has 8,566 signatures.
"Force all states to pay their portion of the national debt before they can secede from the union". 1725 signatures.
"Remove "In God We Trust" from U.S. currency and remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance". 3181 signatures.
Some folks apparently fail to understand the concept of a Constitutional Republic. :) They must have slept through their American Government classes.
It looks like most states have a petition to secede on the website. It also looks as though at least some of the Liberals are starting to realize that this could interrupt their Gravy Train. That the "producers" are tired of providing for the "takers".
Interesting.
The petition for Texas secession now has nearly 100,000 signatures. They need only 25,000 to receive a response from the White House. There is a petition for the City of Austin, Texas to secede from the state of Texas and remain part of the United States. I believe that Georgia has more than the required 25,000 signatures. North Carolina is over the 25,000 threshold.
Will it do any good? Probably not. What it does do is give those who didn't vote for obama an opportunity to speak their mind and voice their displeasure at the Marxist policies of the current regime. Democracy in action. It brings the anger of The People to the forefront in a national forum, which is, in my opinion, a good thing.
Of course, I believe that it will all be ignored.
Like Benghazi. And Fast and Furious. And a hundred other issues.
We have more important issues to deal with. Issues like the sex lives and spending habits of our Generals.
Here is the petition website. Go take a look. Please, if you want to start a new petition for your state, make sure that there isn't one started already. Each petition stands on its own. Each petition needs to meet the threshold of 25,000 signatures to be "eligible" for a response. "Similar" petitions will not be combined to achieve the requisite number of signatures.

Legitimacy...
We have determined that a child born in the United States to an American citizen mother and an al Qaeda terrorist father, a child taken away to a lawless, terrorist country at a very young age and raised there through his or her formative years, taught to hate the United States and everything She stands for, then returned to the United States at some point during his or her early teenage years, can grow up to become President of the United States.
Do you really believe that this is what The Founders meant when they said being a Natural Born Citizen was one of the requirements of being elected to the office? Do you think that The Founders were that stupid?
Have we really allowed basic logic and common sense to be thrown out the window in order to pervert The Constitution in such a way to allow us to have whatever "we" want?
Think about it.

Re-elected Obama Pushes Anti-2nd Amendment Gun Grab

Second Amendment: Within hours of re-election, the administration
fast-tracked a treaty in the United Nations that transcends borders and tramples
our constitutional right to keep and bear arms. It was no coincidence.
Less than 24 hours after President Obama's re-election, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations helped move the U.N.'s Arms Control Treaty a step closer to enactment. America joined 157 other nations in voting Wednesday to finalize the treaty in March. None was opposed and there were 18 abstentions.
U.N. delegates and gun-control activists had complained that talks collapsed in July largely because Obama feared attacks from Republican rival Mitt Romney if his administration was seen as openly supporting the pact. But once the election was over, the Obama administration had more flexibility to pull the trigger on supporting the pact.
The Obama administration, which reversed long-standing U.S. opposition to the treaty in 2009, says the treaty does not threaten our Second Amendment rights and applies only to international arms trade. But its record of opposition to private gun ownership and its deference to international bodies and their authority give us pause.
So does a paper by the U.N.'s Coordinating Action on Small Arms. It notes that arms have been "misused by lawful owners" and demands that the "arms trade therefore be regulated in ways that would ... minimize the misuse of legally owned weapons."
Is an American defending his home against intruders just such a "misuse"?
Even if the treaty applied only to transfers of small arms between nations, would that mean restrictions on our ability to aid allies such as Israel and Taiwan? Would we be forbidden from supporting resistance movements around the world that rise up against the very dictators who support this treaty?
The treaty establishes a bizarre moral equivalence between countries that trade arms to defend freedom and those that do so to suppress and extinguish it.
Interestingly, just as the world's worst human rights violators sat on and often chaired the U.N. Human Rights Council, Iran, arms supplier extraordinaire to America's enemies, was elected to a top position at the U.N. Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty that was held in New York in early July.
The U.S. is one of the few countries that has anything like a Second Amendment, our Founding Fathers enshrining the right to bear arms in our founding principles in recognition of it being the ultimate bulwark against tyrannical government. They were guns owned by civilians that freed us from British tyranny. The fact that tyrants, dictators, thugs and gross human-rights violators want to control small arms worldwide is hardly a surprise.

So...
I read an election related article yesterday that stated that mock elections in High Schools across the country showed that a very large majority of students voted for obama. All I could think was "go figure". It only reinforced in my mind that the public schools in America today don't teach students how to think. They teach them what to think. I believe that is the reason why our students fare so poorly against students from other "First World" countries. Our students have gone from the top 3 in math and science to something like 23rd and 25th. I think we have all seen the numbers.
Anyway...
It reminded me of a time a few years back when my middle son was in middle school. Must have been 1992. Clinton vs Bush I. He came home from school one afternoon spouting off about Clinton like the man was some sort of God. They had held mock elections and "everyone" voted for Clinton. I asked if he had "voted" for Clinton. The answer was a resounding "yes"! I got my unhappy ass into my car and went up to the middle school to talk to the principal to see if the numbers that Eric had given me were true. Had "everyone" truly voted for Clinton? I thought that if this were true, something wasn't right. Couldn't happen naturally. I had known this principal for a number of years as she had been my oldest son's TAG and English teacher some years before. It wasn't a happy reunion. She confirmed for me that the numbers that Eric had shared with me were indeed true. Nearly 90% of the 7th and 8th grade students had voted for Clinton in the mock election. I asked her how could that possibly be? She looked at me as if I were an idiot. What do you mean "how can that be", she asked me? I asked again, how can 90% of the students possibly vote for the same candidate if they aren't being "taught" to vote for said candidate? I never received an answer...
My middle son survived and has gone on to become a "right" thinking young man. On his own. No one has to tell him how to vote. He thinks for himself. A miracle, in my mind, given the public school system we have today.
My oldest son and my 6 year old grand-daughter came down for supper on Tuesday night and we sat down to watch election returns for a few minutes before we ate. I was sitting in my chair and the missus was sitting on the couch. Little Miss came into the living room and sat down on the other end of the couch. She seemed to be in a serious mood. She said "Gramma, Papa, did you vote today?"
I sort of rolled my eyes, knowing what was coming. Carl saw me and said "Listen to her". I smiled and figured OK, I'll go along. Gramma and I both said to her that yes, we had voted today. She said "who did you vote for?" The missus told her that she had voted for Romney. Little Miss' eyes lit up and she said "so did I!" She was obviously pretty proud of herself for "voting" the same way that her Gramma had voted.
I was surprised.
I live in a town that is home to one of Iowa's 3 State Universities and also home to the manufacturer of those big green farm tractors that you see out in the fields. Liberal college professors and unions. You can guess how the locals vote here, eh? (My oldest son and I both went to the University here and neither of us turned out Liberal. How weird is that? They failed! :) It was interesting, though, attending a school where you didn't think like the rest of them :) )
I don't know what it means. The kids around here voted with the same large majorities for obama as those in the rest of the country. That seems a bit suspect to me. My grand-daughter didn't vote with the crowd. And she was proud of herself, both for voting and for voting the same as Gramma. And she actually went to the polls with her mother..
I like the fact that the schools are teaching our children some civic responsibility. I dislike that they are apparently teaching them who to vote for.
Stay safe.

One more time...
Had to post this one again. Still gives me the chills every time I watch it.
Oh, say can you see
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming
And the rocket's red glare,
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
Because we are the brave
Yes we are the brave
We'll fight tyranny
In the name of the free
We are the U.S. of A
For those unaware
That flag is still there
It's our future to save
This land of the brave
The U.S. of A
Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land, land of the free and the home of the brave
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming
And the rocket's red glare,
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
Because we are the brave
Yes we are the brave
We'll fight tyranny
In the name of the free
We are the U.S. of A
For those unaware
That flag is still there
It's our future to save
This land of the brave
The U.S. of A
Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land, land of the free and the home of the brave
Stay safe.
From David...
"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."
~~~Thomas Paine
Tomorrow...
Tomorrow is the day we either slow down the slide or we crash over the cliff.
If obama is reelected he will have Carte Blanche to do whatever he wants, no holds barred.
I'm not foolish enough to think that Romney, if elected, will make it right. He won't. He'll soon be owned by the same people who own obama. The same people who have owned the past "who knows how many" presidents. The same people who own our congress and our judiciary.
I've been watching some of the posts by my "Liberal" acquaintances on Fb. There is no thought involved with them. It's all emotion. They are all products of the brain washing. They drink the Kool-Aid. They can't post a comment without calling someone stupid, or an idiot, or a fucktard. These people are the teachers who are teaching our children and grandchildren, the lawyers who make the laws and defend us in court, the functionaries who work in the offices of government. They are the self proclaimed "highly educated and smarter than you" crowd. They all have the mentality and emotional stability of a 6 year old.
They scare me.
God bless us all.
Stay safe.
Higher volume and...
This machine came to me set up for reloading .223 Remington. I also have turrets, shell plates, and dies for it in .45 acp, .40 S&W and .308, though I suspect that I will continue to reload the .308 one round at a time on the single stage press, weighing each charge on the digital scale. I'll still load .223 for the Remington 700 on the single stage press, also.
With .223/5.56 running nearly $400 a thousand these days, it just makes sense. I figure I can reload 55gr .223/5.56 for just about half that price.
My wife's cousin from Illinois brought us some goodies yesterday. Chocolate covered bacon! It's actually pretty good. Tastes like salty chocolate and sweet bacon. He brought us some "bacon bark", too. It is made with dark chocolate and, of course, bacon.
Stay safe.
