Though it's hard to tell...

...it appears the Ukrainians are hanging on.

I'm not a strategist, but I do know that there has to be bold action along with thoughtful planning to assure success in battle.  The US is overly fearful of what Putin might do.  That seems painfully obvious.  There seems to be a fear of being forced to take bold action, if whatever less bold action we undertake makes escalation become necessary.  Meanwhile, people die.  And Putin is still a threat to the entire world.  I guess that time will tell.

But what do I know?

Peace

We broke a treaty with the Soviets when the wall fell stating 'no new NATO countries'.

Why would anyone ever trust us in a treaty again after this...and the Afghans, and the Cherokees?

When senators start sending their sons...I'll give a hoot. Hat tip to Creedance Clearwater Revival.

Thanks for responding, Joe,

I don't disagree with you regarding Americans and treaties. We honor them as long as they serve our purpose.

I'm not real familiar with Kohlmeyer. I know he escaped Communist Czechoslovakia in his youth and has written about the evils of the world we live in. I'm not sure he is totally consistent in who he supports ;)

From my simple-minded perspective, Putin is a bad dude. He is looking for a reason and a way to recreate the former glory of the USSR. Ukraine is simply the first step. (or third, if one is paying attention) If I were the Czech Republic, or Poland, or Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania, I'd be concerned about Putin's intentions. He is neither honest nor is he honorable. He never has been. Is he concerned about NATO on his doorstep? Yeah, probably. Should he be? Maybe.

I don't know the answers, only what I feel. And that changes from time to time.

:)
