Deer hunting...

Not very purdy.  Damned cold...

 My oldest son, Carl...

 Old farm machinery...

 Parts...

 Business end of 870...

 Yesterday's sunset...

Brand new gate vandalized...  My tax dollars, wasted.

More vandalism...  MY tax dollars, wasted.

Well used 870.  She has a few miles on 'er but still works fine:)

 :)

Poached.  Loins and hams gone.  No tag.  I hate people who do this stuff.

 Carl watching...

Today's sunset...

Carl and I spent the weekend deer hunting.  No luck, but that's alright.  7 more days to go :)  There is still plenty of time.

I've never understood the concept of party hunting.  That's where a large group go into the woods and 3/4 of the party go push through the woods so the other 1/4 can blow the deer away when they are "pushed" into them.  Doesn't seem very sporting to me.  Sounds like a firefight when they start shooting.  Oh well.  It's legal.  Doesn't make it right.

Met up with a gal and her husband out in the woods today and started talking.  Turns out that the guy was a friend of mine from elementary school.  Haven't seen him in 46 years.  I have to say that it was an excellent day!

Stay safe.

Drive hunts are from way back. They were mainly used when we had to hunt to put food on the table. All the way back to caveman days.

They are very effective if you know how to do it. Funnels & choke points are the key. You just can't send a bunch of folks though the woods. All they do is scatter the deer.

On another note. I'm glad I am not the only NOT seeing deer. In East Texas I have seen does. No bucks after opening weekend.

Several processors around here are saying they are down on the deer being brought in by 200 deer or more. That it significant in that they charge $85-$100. So expand that out and that effects a whole lot of folks.

Finally, there is nothing like being out in the woods with the kids. Doesn't matter is you see/shoot anything or not. It's good quality time with them.

I can't think of what deer and pecans have in common, but this year my seven 100-200 Pecan tress have hardly any nuts at all.

Looks heavenly...like my neck of the woods...Indiana. I could really use some boonie time. I despise the city and all it stands for. You are a fortunate man, Blue.

Brock... Thanks.

Rich... There are deer around here. They just don't show up when I'm around. We've had 3 pretty severe winters in a row and I suspect that has taken a toll on the herd, though DNR says numbers are up. Who knows?

Irish... It was wild! I had asked his name when we were first talking to them and he said "Carter". I was talking to his wife on the walk out and asked "is your husband's first name Larry?"
"Yes"
"Did he go to Edison in Waterloo?"
"Yes"
"Is his dad's name Frank?"
"Yes"
"Is his mom's name Francine?"
"Yes"
"Is he 57?"
"Yes"
Yeah, it was good!

Brock... Deer like pecans? Whooda thunk?

Walter Zoomie... Yes, it was great. Have a few more days of hunting left. :)

Smoke signals? Word of mouth? An ad in the Deer Times? Cell phone? Internet? Secret drop box? Tin cans and taught cord?

So many possibilities.

Pecan Pie. Now I'm hungry for something sweet.

An ad in the Deer Times?
